The Bradford County Courthouse in Towanda, Pennsylvania, as well as the public square on which it sits, is a fascinating place. The story of the courthouse square begins 200 years ago, but the history is not always what you would expect.
Bradford County has been saving its history for over 150 years. Local historians have documented our stories in personal collections, books, newspapers, and museums for many generations. Learn about these historians and the work they did to preserve their heritage so it would be available for present generations.
Bradford County history books written in the late 1800s are filled with the stories and accomplishments of a long list of men. But what about the outstanding women who made Bradford County their home? This program will discuss women from all over the county who led remarkable lives.
There has been renewed interest in the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 This program titled, "The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 and It's Effect on Bradford County" covers the history of the 1918 pandemic and its effect on our county. Notice the numerous similarities between the stories told in this presentation and the experiences of the pandemic of 2020.
The Piollet family played a significant part in the history of Bradford County, Pennsylvania. Join us as we learn about their role in the growth and development of the area since 1810, their involvement in the North Branch Canal, coal mining at Barclay and the railroad. Also learn about their mansion at Wysox which is the jewel of the county.
